Throughout time man has made his creative mark on the landscape signifying to others, present and future,“we were here”.

Smile is the Medway’s landmark for the 21 st century symbolizing our place in time, and unlike our ancient predecessors we view from high above out of airplane windows or via satellite, rather than those well trodden pathways looking upon hill sides.

The Medway Towns are now highly populated with seemly a lack of open space, however at the heart of our region is the River which gives its name to the place we live. Our River provides access and space and at the river gateway to the towns lies Hoo Salt Marsh, a perfect place to say we were here in 2007.

Smile is not just a calling card, it is a place, a three dimensional space for the citizens of Medway to experience and enjoy. It is a sanctuary and retreat away from the whirlwind of our lives, but remaining grounded and very much part of where we live.

The walls of Smile are not lifeless concrete, they are a canvas back drop for all those who visit to leave there own calling card in time – pin up a photo of your smiling face.

At this time Smile is just a creative visualization, but maybe one day…………SMILE.

Visit the virtual computer tour in and around the Smile Island and upload your smiling face to be added to the walls of the model.
